Putting the cloud in point cloud: Veesus moves to a cloud-first model for all our software

Today, we’ve released a very important update across our key software products: Arena4D; Point Clouds for SolidWorks, Rhino, and Revit; and Zappcha. But, in reality, it’s more than just an update. It’s a fundamental evolution in how Veesus works, that puts the cloud at the centre of all our software and makes it easier for professionals who work with point clouds to do their jobs – both right now and for a long time to come. We’ve simplified the way we do business, and we’re giving our users access to much more of our software – not just individual programs.

Needless to say, we’re very excited about this change and the potential for our customers that it brings. In this post, we’re explaining more about what the changes are, why we’ve made them, and what this means for our user community.

What’s changed?

The biggest change for users is that, instead of buying a 12-month licence that gives you access to a specific piece of software, from today customers pay a monthly subscription fee that gives them access to all of our major solutions: Arena4D, Point Clouds for SolidWorks, Point Clouds for Rhino, Point Clouds for Revit, and the Zappcha Cloud, our cloud storage solution for scan data. It’s that simple: one monthly subscription, five solutions.

The next evolution our current users will notice is that the Zappcha Cloud is now the default option for storing your point clouds. Combined with our VPC file format and the XStreamEngine that powers our software, the Zappcha Cloud enables users to stream their point cloud data from the Zappcha Cloud to any device, instantly – regardless of how large the point cloud is. It’s pretty similar to how Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive works – but for point clouds.

It means that we’re doing away with license keys; all you’ll need to access our software is a Veesus login and you’re good to go. We’ve created four tiers of access for Veesus products, which will replace the Basic, Standard and Professional editions of our software that currently exist. You can learn more about those tiers on our software page, but we’ve also included the information here:

Why are we making these changes?

The way people work is changing. In almost every industry, being able to work and react to changes faster is a competitive advantage. Employees want to be more flexible in how and where they work – and many employers want to give that flexibility to their employees, recognising the benefits it brings to the business. The technology that businesses use to get their work done have all evolved to make that possible, in particular the move to cloud-based applications and technology.

Until now, professionals who use point cloud data in their work often found that the size and complexity of point clouds made it hard to embrace these new changes. They could work at home – if they could only get the point cloud onto a portable hard drive to take home. They could work faster – if their machines could load the massive datasets faster. They could collaborate more easily – if they didn’t have to share point cloud files by posting them between offices.

Veesus is changing that narrative. We’ve made it possible to stream point cloud data just like you would stream a movie or a song; using our software you can view point clouds stored online from anywhere, lightning fast, even for massive datasets. By making the Zappcha Cloud the central to our solutions, users can now fully unlock these benefits for their businesses. No more posting hard drives around to share point clouds; just stream them through the Zappcha Cloud. Employees can work from home if they need to, streaming data stored in the Zappcha Cloud to their machine over the internet with no loss of quality.

We also love the idea of making professional-grade point cloud editing tools available to everyone. The potential of point cloud data in so many fields – construction, architecture, forensics, defence, archaeology, even the arts – is great, but it can’t be realised if the best tools are prohibitively expensive for most users. Our new pricing model is designed to make our tools affordable for all, whether professional or hobbyist, and we look forward to seeing what innovations and advances that will bring in how point clouds get used.

What happens next?

For new customers joining us, everything is all set up for you – just head over to our software page to get started.

For existing customers using our Veesus products, you can switch over when your current license expires. When you do, you’ll create a new Veesus account which will give you the ability to download and use all our software.

For existing Zappcha users, your Zappcha login credentials will become your Veesus subscription login credentials, and you can use these to access Zappcha and all our other software – click here to learn more about what we have on offer for you.

We’re committed to making sure that our users feel comfortable and excited about the changes we’re making, so we’ll be in touch with customers over the coming weeks and months to help guide you through these changes. But if you ever have questions for us, you can get in touch with us here.
